Sumner, Wash. – Mount Rainier Coffee Company celebrated its first anniversary where it all began at the Good Sam Foundation’s Come Walk With Me event on October 8. In a statement of their commitment to breast cancer research and awareness, Mount Rainier Coffee Company staffers collected 267 feet of donated bras to create the first bra garland for the event, which was placed along the Sumner Bridge.
President and CEO Rod Stephens felt compelled to raise even greater awareness this year. In line with the company’s mission, they joined Good Sam at the Old Cannery.
When the idea of creating a bra garland came to Rod he contacted the Puyallup Sumner Chamber of Commerce, they immediately embraced the idea along with the Old Cannery in Sumner. The three quickly set up donation points collecting the 267 feet of bras in just five days. Given the overwhelming response to the idea this year, Rod expects greater participation in 2012 from more businesses and organizations.
When asked about the bras adorning the bridge Rod said, “These bras epitomize the courageous women that fight this terrible disease. Regardless of the person’s shape, size, or age, this disease affects women in our families, neighborhoods, and workplace. It’s time for this to stop.” To further the support awareness and research Mount Rainier Coffee Company will donate 25% of sales to the Good Sam Foundation during the month of October.
Mount Rainier Coffee Company launched in 2010 with a full line of blends that celebrate the Pacific Northwest. On October 31 the company is slated to release its latest blend, Storm Watch with its holiday blend, Snow Angel, rolling out on November 1. Commitment to community is what drives the company. Mount Rainier Coffee Company donates 10% of every sale of their coffees, baskets, cups, mugs, and moJOE apparel to their nonprofit partners.
The company’s business model lends itself to corporate social responsibility on a local level. By partnering with organizations such as Good Sam Foundation, Puyallup Sumner Chamber of Commerce, and the Daffodil Scholarship Foundation, drinkers of mo-‐JOE, as they call it, are supporting organizations that make an impact. The company makes a little change every day. That change adds up to a positive outcome for local families and businesses. This year the company is slated to roll out a new program, which will offer mo-‐JOE drinkers greater insight into the impact, their purchases make.
Mount Rainier Coffee Company mo-‐JOE can be purchased online at www.xxxx.com or at the company’s new headquarters in Puyallup located in the historic Knight Building at 0000 N. Meridian.
